Baker Furniture, north window designed by Susan Manrao for #LEGENDS2013.

Susan Manrao paid homage to the Edison light bulb in her window design for Baker Furniture for #LEGENDS2013.

Susan Manrao Design is most prominently known for creating “indie luxury” environments – memorable spaces that embody a nontraditional approach to luxury with avant-garde art installations and objects from emerging artists. Inspired by her tenure at the W Hotel brand in New York, Susan seeks out the undiscovered and unusual. Susan is an extensive traveler, having visited more than 22 countries collecting experiences, building relationships and curating an expansive library of international design resources.

A quote from the designer about her #LEGENDS2013 window design for Baker Furniture:

“With the world changing at a rapid pace, there are objects that are timeless and whose presence never cease to bring beauty and character to the world. This is an homage to the Edison bulb and other objects that were once considered indispensable to design and now on their way to extinction. For a moment, let’s relish the timeless beauty of 2700 kelvin.”

Baker Furniture builds furniture from more periods, styles, and international influences than any other maker. One of the oldest furniture companies in the U.S., Baker Furniture was founded by Siebe Baker and Henry Cook, both from the Netherlands, in western Michigan in 1890. Pieces were commissioned from designers early on, starting with Gilbert Rohde in 1929, Scandinavian furniture wunderkind Finn Juhl in the 1950s, and Robsjohn-Gibbings in 1960. Baker currently carries furniture and/or lighting collections by Tony Duquette, André Arbus, Thomas Pheasant, Jacques Garcia, Michael S. Smith and Barbara Barry, among other noted international designers.
