Windsor Smith Digs Unique Hardware and a Shady Lunch Spot

Clients like Gwyneth Paltrow and a-list Hollywood insiders seek out Windsor Smith to create glamorous modern interiors that are as luxurious as they are practical.
A self-described “lifestyle architect,” Smith believes in more than just creating a pretty interior (though she can do that with her eyes closed). Her philosophy reveals a responsibility to “give people spaces that support their families.”

subtle textures and details do the talking. Photo by Michael Wells.
Her lovely, layered spaces are featured in a book she authored, Homefront: Design for Modern Living (Rizzoli) and in the pages of Elle Decor, GQ, Instyle, Veranda and more. She also created Room in a Box—an online luxury decorating service. Then there’s her collections including bespoke furniture, lighting, fabrics, and rugs.
We were thrilled when she took time from her very hectic week to share her insider tips and sources from around the LCDQ.
Favorite thing about visiting & shopping LCDQ is…
“The convenience (so much in one place) and the variety (vintage, latest lines). I can spend the day there, hit all the shops, and get a varied offering. Just love the boutique nature and great restaurants within a stone’s throw.”
Best score ever (personally/professionally) was…
“A vintage Cartier lighter from The Row.”
Biggest design weakness and where I get my fix…
“My biggest weakness is actually Pinterest. It’s a well of inspiration that I go back to constantly, especially for product. It’s a great tee up for shopping LCDQ. I like Dessin Fournir and Harbinger which have the best hardware, great textiles and ready-made product when you’re grabbing for accessories; Lucca Antiques for handsome masculine product to counter balance my more feminine aesthetic; and it’s always inspiring to go into Kelly Wearstler.”

Currently on the hunt for…
“A unique garden sculpture and constructivist art by unknown artists. I need it for a gallery room I am working on for a client.”
Where to take clients (or myself) before/after shopping LCDQ…
"Alfred for coffee. Lunch at the The Ivy on Robertson. I love the atmosphere of both and of course the quality is amazing.”

For non-design browsing around the LCDQ…
“Zimmerman and Monique Lhuillier. They are both girly and fabulous and I love the decor. I especially love Zimmermann for the simple, fresh aesthetic—I often compare Australians to Californians, as they have the same beachy, relaxed mentality.”

Where I like to have a post-LCDQ cocktail…
“A Moscow Mule at The Nice Guy.”
Hotel I’d recommend to visitors…
“Petit Ermitage for the great service and gorgeous rooftop.”

Inspiring place to see close to LCDQ…
“MOCA and the West Hollywood Public Library. I love the the light quality, the smell of books, and the sense of community.”
