Countdown to LEGENDS 2015: Veranda Editor Clinton Smith Leads Panel on Publishing Designer Books
In “Page Turners,” the first keynote of the La Cienega Design Quarter’s LEGENDS 2015 event, top design professionals and authors Windsor Smith, Brian McCarthy, and Markham Roberts will share the current state of designer monographs, both from the creative and business side, with Veranda Editor in Chief Clinton Smith. They’ll discuss how they navigated the world of publishing – from initial concepts to completed books on store shelves – and how they translated their individual points of view onto the printed page. The keynote is scheduled for Thursday, May 7th, 9:30 – 10:30 am, at the Jonas showroom.

Windsor Smith, founder and creator of Windsor Smith Home, Inc. in Los Angeles, is frequently featured in shelter magazines. A favorite of design bloggers and editors thanks to her fresh approach to modern day living, Smith was honored by Veranda magazine as one of the top 25 design influencers in their 25-year history. Designing interiors for leaders in the entertainment and business worlds, Smith creates gracious silhouettes that reflect her client’s personalities. Her first book, Homefront: Design for Modern Living, is about combining new belongings with treasures from the past and reclaiming a home’s best spaces and remaking them to suit a modern life.
A former partner of the legendary design firm Parish-Hadley and a member of Architectural Digest’s AD100 and Elle Decor’s A-List, Brian McCarthy has designed an array of stunning private residences around the United States. His first book, Luminous Interiors, showcases nine of his favorite projects around the country, each of which demonstrates his attention to detail, love of texture, and unique perspective. Alongside gorgeous, inspiring photographs, the New York-based Carthy shares personal, informative text and takes the reader through his creative process, offering insight into his inspiration and design decisions.
With a reputation for bringing a fresh and modern approach to classical design, Markham Roberts is known for his inventive combination of layered pattern and color and bold juxtaposition of fine furniture and works of art. His book, Decorating The Way I See It, is illustrated with more than 350 photographs of homes across the country. It provides a view into living environments that are shaped by where they are located, but with Roberts’ distinctive touch. Roberts is based in New York.
