Brian Patrick Flynn’s Retro View of the American Family in Windows at Jamal’s
Jamal’s Rug Collection windows designed by Brian Patrick Flynn for #LEGENDS2013.
Former TV news producer Brian Patrick Flynn, fascinated with the way the family has been portrayed in television and film, creates an updated take on the “timeless appeal of 1950s design” in his #LEGENDS2013 window design at Jamal’s Rug Collection.
Flynn is a self-taught decorator who entered the world of design after a successful career as a TV news producer. Best described as masculine, playful and transitional in style, Flynn’s all-American interiors mix the mod look of the 1960’s with classic, traditional lines set against unconventional color schemes. He continues to put his writing, directing and producing skills to good use by editorializing his own design projects and those of his peers as video and photographic content for hgtv.com.
A quote from the designer on his #LEGENDS2013 window design for Jamal’s Rug Collection:
“Ever since studying television and film in college, I’ve been fascinated with the portrayal of the nuclear family of the 1950s. The gender roles of hard-working, professional dad and slim, sophisticated stay-at-home-mom were never broken, the interiors were crisp, clean and clutter-free, and the kids were often well-mannered. Nowadays, the tailored, timeless appeal of 1950s design is more alive than ever; however, gender roles have been completely redefined. My window concept is The Nuclear Family Room, 2013.”
Jamal’s Rug Collection offers a wide array of handmade antique rugs and textiles from all over the world.
