La Cienega Design Quarter 2013Szalon’s window designed by Frank Pennino & Scott Shelley for #LEGENDS2013.

Frank Pennino and Scott Shelley display the influence technology has on personal interaction and interior design in their #LEGENDS2013 window at Szalon.

Both Shelley and Pennino, who have been designing together for over 20 years, provide their clients with a historical perspective and timeless design. Interiors are described as honest, enriching, comfortable and appropriate for family life. The firm is comprised of the designers and seven full-time workers, including draftsmen. Though their designs vary from traditional to period and contemporary, there is always a strong collaboration with those who will ultimately inhabit the rooms.

A quote from the designers on their #LEGENDS2013 window design at Szalon:

“Our technology often disrupts personal interaction. Interior design becomes formulated. All observed and recorded…”

Szalon is dedicated to Hungarian and Central European antiques of the early 20th Century. The showroom features furniture and decorative arts from the Vienna Secession, Art Deco and Bauhaus eras, presenting a highly accomplished treasure trove to American collectors. Rarely seen in the U.S., Hungarian design combines indigenous motifs with medieval and eastern influences for uniquely-flavored Modernist furnishings featuring clean, sensual lines, gorgeous native woods and fine detailing. Szalon displays works by Josef Hoffmann, Otto Wagner, Gustav Giegel, Dagobert Peche, and Joseph Maria Olbrich, as well as pieces by Hungary’s best known native designer, Lajos Kozma, and the renowned Zsolnay ceramics factory. The complementing REVIVALS LINE features new lighting case goods and carpets inspired by the works of Modernist masters like Hoffmann and Kozma.
