Did you happen to see this?  That crazycool, geometric/polygon building in Beijing with the vast void in the middle of it – spectacularly burned on Monday. Designed by the starchitect Rem Koolhaas, the building, which actually wasn’t due to be totally completed until May, was to house a Mandarin Oriental Hotel and part of the headquarters of Chinese Television, CCTV, (along with an adjacent building.)  What makes this even more interesting is that it appears that the fire was triggered by an illegal fireworks show being staged in celebration of the last day of the Lunar New Year festivities….   I think embarrassing is an understatement.  Don’t they kill people in China for mistakes like that?
