LEGENDS 2013 Presents “Doing the Wright Thing”
Join us for a #LEGENDS2013 panel discussion with L.A.’s top architects on Thursday, May 9 at 10:30 am about the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright in Los Angeles.
Frank Lloyd Wright’s visionary influence on architecture is reflected in the facades of 4 textile block homes in Los Angeles (#Ennis, #Freeman, #Storer and #Millard). In these homes, Wright elevated the ordinary concrete wall to art by creating ornamental, almost brocade-like patterns in the concrete. The style was an experiment, an attempt by Wright to add ornament to mass-produced blocks and therefore add an element of architectural beauty.
Nicci Solomons, Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles, leads a discussion with architects Steven Ehrlich and Franco Vecchio, along with Jeffrey Herr, Curator at Hollyhock House, about the value in and methods of preserving these 4 #textileblockhouses, which were built in 1923 and 1924.
