Kathryn M. Ireland

The British-born designer is known for her relaxed, Bohemian spaces—no doubt influenced by her thirty years in Los Angeles. Colorful prints (many of which she designs herself), and character-rich furniture and accents define Ireland’s interiors favored by clients like Steve Martin and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

An avid entertainer in both her L.A. home as well as her idyllic farmhouse in southwest France, the designer seems to imbue each part of her life with a joie de vivre and editorial eye.

Lauded for her “seat-of- the-pants chic” by editors at Elle Décor, W, Veranda, Traditional Home, WSJ, World of Interiors and more, she’s shared her approach to design, style and entertaining in four books.

So we couldn’t wait to hear where she finds fabric, furnishings and fun around the quarter.

Favorite thing about visiting & shopping LCDQ is…

“The convenience (so much in one place) and the variety (vintage, latest lines), etc.”

Best score ever…

“A 17th-century Sicilian mirror at Gep Durenburger (a little south of LCDQ) in San Juan Capistrano.”

Biggest design weakness and where I can always get my fix…

“Textiles at Pat McGann.”

Currently on the hunt for…

“A man that doesn’t bore me to tears.”

Where I like to take clients (or myself) before/after shopping LCDQ…

Caffe Luxxe at Brentwood Country Mart. And Cecconi’s—they serve a great Gavi and it’s fun to share a bunch of starters. The best.”

For non-design browsing around the LCDQ…

Stella McCartney, American Rag, or Fred Segal. I’m inspired to see what’s going on in fashion.”

Where I like to have a post-LCDQ cocktail…

“A great Cosmo at Sunset Tower. I like the scene. I always bump into people I know. It’s like L.A. meets London.”

Hotel I’d recommend to visitors…

Chateau Marmont. It’s one of the great classic hotels. There’s always a great scene at night, and I am crazy for the Spanish Revival rooms and the garden to eat in.”

LACMA
LACMA’s striking, inspiring exterior.

Inspiring place to see close to LCDQ…

LACMA. They always have a great exhibition on.”

The hidden gem of LCDQ is really…

Henry Beguelin on Melrose for leather goods, My go-to for bags and bar stools. Unless you go in, you have no idea that they have great decorative accessories.”
