Meet and Greet and Trunk Show: Frances Palmer at Hollyhock

Thursday, May 8
2:00-6:00PM

Internationally admired potter (and avid gardener) Frances Palmer will be visiting Hollyhock for a Trunk Show of her handmade ceramic vases and other beautiful pieces made in her Connecticut studio. Perfect for Mother’s Day gifts, Frances’ extensive collection of vases, bowls, platters, and more will be available for purchase at Hollyhock through LEGENDS and beyond.

Frances’ handmade ceramics are functional art – dishware or vases that can be used on a daily basis. Each piece, no matter how large or small, is considered an individual. Frances was recently featured in the May 2014 issue of Martha Stewart Living.

Open House: Preview the Jacques Garcia Collection at Baker

Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9
12:00-6:00PM

Visit Baker Furniture for a preview of the Jacques Garcia collection. With more than 40 large-scale projects completed each year, Jacques Garcia ranks as the most sought-after French interior decorator. Garcia project’s include James Joyce’s favorite restaurant, (Le Fouquet’s), Oscar Wilde’s Parisian residence (the Hotel des Beaux-Arts), and the magnificent restoration of Champ de Bataille.

Jacques Garcia’s current collection has over 105 pieces of casegoods and upholstery with 55 of those pieces comprising completely new designs. Over 40 items from this collection are on display during LEGENDS and these items are complemented by a full offering of tabletop pieces and lighting.

Complementing the detailed construction and design for his new collection, Garcia also incorporated 2 new wood finishes (Luxe and Nocturne), 2 new metal finishes (white gold and Fonderie) and the introduction of American forged steel as a new material providing contrast and interest.

The collection draws design influences from Art Deco, Classic Greek and Roman, Neo Classical and French Modernism. The iconic Atrium Chaise from this collection represents the synthesis of these classic styles into a statement piece only possible through Baker Furniture’s craftsmen.

Jacques Garcia designed the Atrium to showcase Baker’s skill. With countless details in wood and upholstery, an equally bespoke chaise would rarely be seen outside an atelier in Paris. Surpassing in geometry, joinery, veneering, and tailoring, the Atrium is an icon in the making.

The daring proportions of the Atrium reflect a high back over a low wood frame, over short splayed legs. A quartered mahogany back curves to a tolerance before wrapping into deeply cut side panels terminating in a scroll-all meticulously flushed into the base rail. While standard in Luxe or Ebonized, optional finishes are available. The upholstery can be specified in Baker fabric, COM, or COL.

Enjoy French-themed treats and champagne each day of LEGENDS from noon until 6pm.

Baker Furniture speaks the language of style. Not satisfied to be of the moment, the company works to be of the movement, in the role of taste maker and innovator rather than a follower at the whim of fashion. The accent is on product – through Design, Materials, Craftsmanship, and Finish.
