Two of Jasper’s windows designed by Maine Design for #LEGENDS2013.

Jason and Katie Maine of Maine Design, inspired by decorative artists of eras past, presented the work of modern artisans in the two windows they designed at Jasper for #Legends2013.

“Seeing decorative artists like Serge Roche and Giacometti’s work on our first shopping trip to Paris changed our view of design,” say the husband-wife design duo. “We wanted to use current decorative artists because we feel that these modern artisans, while having a strong influence from the past, are paving the way for the future of design, using old world techniques and craftsmanship to create something fresh and unexpected.”

Jason and Katie met while working for designer Michael Smith; Jason was Studio Director and Katie was a designer. The lessons of their mentor are clearly evident in the sophistication and confidence of Maine Design’s interiors. The couple’s fresh, contemporary sensibility, however, is purely their own. Maine Design approaches each project as a unique collaboration, and their ever-evolving design aesthetic is influenced by their passion for finding impeccable resources.

Michael S. Smith Inc. was launched in 1990, expanding from projects solely for private clients to Michael Smith’s Jasper line of fine furniture and fabrics sold exclusively in multi-line showrooms around the world. Jasper carries furniture, fabric and accessories crafted by the world’s finest artisans. Inspired by Smith’s personal archive of historic designs, Jasper reflects his vision that everyone should live with beautiful things.
