Elsie de Wolfe

For three days in May, the LCDQ in collaboration with ELLE DECOR and Habitat for Humanity will throw an epic block party.  According to the press release, the event, dubbed the “Legends of La Cienega,” “will pay homage to the greatest of the legendary interior designers who frequented the showrooms, galleries and shops of the district during the last 60 years.”  A cadre of the West Coast’s leading designers “will create tributes to the legends of yesterday with window displays and vignettes in the LCDQ member stores, evoking their historic legends.”  Legends such as Billy Haines, T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, Tony Duquette and Elsie de Wolfe will be honored by such prestigious designers as Madeline Stuart, Joe Nye and Martyn Lawrence-Bullard

The three-day weekend will kick off on Thursday, May 7th with an exclusive gala party hosted by ELLE DECOR’S Margaret Russell.  On Friday 1st Dibs will host a luncheon and on Saturday, the boulevard will be transformed back in time with classic cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s.  Illustrated lectures and book signings will be on offer, and design students will showcase their visions for the future of design. As the date draws nearer and as more details emerge I will keep you posted.

It’s an ambitious undertaking, but one which aims to entertain, educate and inspire.  So mark you calendars.  May 7 – 9.
